Description

Here's the first info-dump of the Species Updates!
This sheet discusses: General Anatomy, Mist, Life Cycles/Lore, and the introduction of the Selvageist Homeworld.
A lot of things are kept consistent, but there are a few changes. The most prominent change being that I've updated how Selvageist are drawn/their anatomy. Hopefully now they'll be easier to draw!

:iconselvageist:

General Anatomy

Selvageist average between 7ft - 11ft tall. They have four eyes and four ears, two per side of their head, as well as long fangs and cloven hooves. Their necks are long and flexible. Selvageist are muscular, but not excessively so.
Their heads are more reptilian in structure while the rest of their body is physically similar to an elk. All Selvageist have ridges above their eyes and a head that gradually slopes into their snout. Their eyes are always pupil-less, and vibrant. Eyes glow and can be any color with the exception of black.

Mist

Selvageist are not "living" beings - they are physical spirits. Their bodies are more like a shell than a system of cells and tissues, containing Mist instead of organs. A Selvageist can eat things if it so desires, but they do not need to consume nutrients in order to survive, and anything a Selvageist ingests will remain in them unless they, rather awkwardly, expel it.
A Selvageist's Mist is their life force/energy - it flows in, around, and through them. Mist can vary in color and appearance, but it always matches the eye color. Selvageist are very tough, but if one is wounded, the wounds will not heal, and their Mist will "leak" out of the wound if it is deep enough. The only way for them to be 'healed' is for the Selvageist to enter their Homeworld dimension, and then return to Earth. In this process, their physical form will be "refreshed".

Life Cycle & Lore

Selvageist aren't born, and they do not die. They do not reproduce sexually, and need no reproductive organs. An individual decides their own gender. Selvageist's existence is based on their Lore.
Every Selvageist has its own unique Lore, the story (true or exaggerated) of either how it came into physical existence, or just about the Selvageist in general. Their Lore is like their reputation. If their Lore is known by humans, the Selvageist will continue to exist, if it is forgotten, the Selvageist no longer exists on Earth. The Lore doesn't need to be known accurately for the Selvageist to still exist, but the more people that know, and the more similar everyone's knowledge is, the stronger the Selvageist. If a forgotten Selvageist's Lore is evantually remembered, it will gain it's physical form once more.
For a Selvageist's Lore to be "known" can be a simple as at least one person just possessing the knowledge, to the Lore being recorded somewhere.
Because of this, Selvageist are greatly dependent on Humans, if they want a physical form. In spite of this, in recent years (many) Selvageist have developed a disdain for Humans because of their destruction of the environments Selvageists swear to protect. But more on this in the next Info Sheet.

The Collective

'The Collective' is the Selvageist home dimension. It is accessible from Earth through several portals that are scattered throughout. 'The Collective' is similar to the Earth in it's terrain, but it is smaller in size. All Selvageist originate within the Collective before manifesting on Earth. They come to their homeworld in order to heal, visit forgotten friends, or if they themselves have become forgotten, but in 'The Collective', time passes differently. In visiting, a Selvageist is at risk of becoming forgotten. Because of this, Selvageist prefer to exist in their physical forms on Earth.
All Lore knowledge of every Selvageist is stored in 'The Collective'.
Guarding over the homeworld resides the Selvageist's God. Like any other Selvageist, when in the homeworld dimension the God exists in it's spiritual form. However, coinciding with the recent disdain for humans, the Selvageist's God has disappeared from 'The Collective'. No one knows why or where to, but in it's wake, three 'True Legendary' Selvageists have been sighted on Earth....

aaaaa I like these... they have a really nice combination of mythic/magic/spiritual themes and cryptid/supernatural ones. Very cool.
